I made it to Marysville earlier today on my bike. For those that know the town will know that it was seriously affected by the bushfires. Actually, it was more or less wiped out. For me to go there today was actaully very errie, not just because I knew it as a beautiful little mountain town that was now almost burnt to the ground, but also because the sky was dark & overcast, it was absolutely freezing & the locals were giving me frazzled looks. Seeing all the ploughed dirt where houses used to stand was quite a sad site. On a brighter note, nature was making a noticeable recovery.

The road into town

Road out of town

Oh, and sorry to take it from warm sunny beaches to this kind of grim atmosphere but I thought, due to our dry climate down south, bush fires represent this end of Australia well. Now all we need is some photos of all the deadly animals that live and reside around Australia and it well may scare everyone off for good

How about this Australian resident. Australia is famous for its poisonous snakes, some of the most deadly in the world live here. This a Red Bellied Black snake and was a rather large one at that!

Some great shots all you are just making Australia a place higher up on the bucket list. I like all the beach shots, City Shots, evidence of all the recent fires but Redfish that Yarra Valley shot is jaw dropping - I really hope you printed that - you could easily sell that shot. Well done.

Mt Feathertop from the top of Mary's Slide

And now for something completely different

I cleaned out my office a couple of weeks ago and found some old 35mm slides. The scanning is not very good, but I thought I'd post it because we haven't seen any snow pictures from Oz yet. Before they put a lift in, it was a 20 to 30 minute hike from the top of the existing lifts to get here. It was worth it because Mary's Slide collected powder and, after a snowfall, was a great run.

This was taken in 1978 on Professional Ektachrome, I think.

For those unaware, there are a number of big things in Australia. Aussies may know about the man made structures i'm talking about. To name a few in Victoria we have; The Big Cigarette, The Big Worm, The Big Cow.

I drove past 'The Big Koala' yesterday. It's a bit creepy but here it is in all its glory.

That koala looks like it's waiting on a role in a koala equivalent of the old Razorback movie.

Unhappy Koala

That has to be the most unhappy koala I have ever seen.
