Wow - a formation of F-101 Voodoos? Rare birds, I think - at least I've never seen a flying example. Nice shots.

Took this one at the International Fleet Review last month here in Sydney, formation flight of RAAF F-18's and Hawks.

Original Size

I was very lucky where I was standing - can clearly see that I was directly below their flight plan.

You are making me think I should have gone in to Sydney instead of watching it on TV.

This C-130 (right? WRONG! C-17) was doing touch and go's here today. We have the longest high altitude runways in the country so a fair bit of testing goes on here.

Nice shot Matt.

Those are huge airplanes. The largest fleet of them is stationed at North Charleston, SC, 120 planes. I have picked up and delivered the thrust reversers for them there, and also at Jackson, MS and Joint Base Fort Lewis/McChord, WA. I also take the old ones to Hot Springs, AR to a place that rebuilds them.

It is interesting how they don't have any permanently stationed there, considering the length of the runways and the testing they do there.

Thanks. The nearest base is in Colorado Springs, maybe 150 miles away. I think they often come from there. We have no military facilities here.

One from the Denver airport, a plane on display in Concourse C. It set a 1996 around the world speed record.

That's a Lear 35A. One of the pilots (There were four) on that record setting flight was former astronaut Pete Conrad. I finished reading his biography Rocket Man just a few days ago. It was a pretty good read. If you like aviation books, three I would recommend are Forever Flying by R. A. 'Bob' Hoover, The Happy Bottom Riding Club by Lauren Kessler, and War of the Aeronauts by Charles Evans.

I like that image in black & white, BTW.

I owned this Citabria for six years 1975 to 1982. About ten years after selling it, someone sent me a picture of it abandoned in a field in the lower mainland of BC Canada. Apparently it was intercepted on a drug run, and when they ran out of fuel, put down in a field and ran.

Always sad to hear about a plane that has found an untimely end.

My mom had a American Aviation Yankee, AA1A. A nice little 2 place with a 4 cylinder Lycoming. After many years of flying enjoyment she found it was costing too much to keep the plane, maintain it and also maintain her license, so she sold it.

Some guy from California bought it, and took it down there.

An acquaintance I was talking to recent;y told me that you can look up planes by their registration number, and having memorized her planes number I looked it up.

Apparently this guy had decided to take a cross country trip in the thing. Now my mom had flown to Oshkosh from Seattle several times for the EAA flyin, alone. Quite an undertaking in such a small plane, but she managed it well.

The subsequent owner did not fare so well.

He got somewhere over Kansas, was running low on fuel (poor planning I would say), and decided to put down in a wheat field. Unfortunately the guy misjudged the soil conditions and the field having been freshly plowed was far from a suitable landing site. The gear dug into the dirt and the plane did a ground loop, destroying the airframe.

It looked like this plane, only yellow.
