The 450 hp Pratt and whitney engine for the Ford Tri-motor

This is a very interesting aircraft. This is the right engine of a very fine aircraft,

A-7B Crusader.
Just a minor nit, but the A-7 was the Corsair II. The F-8, also by Chance-Vought was the Crusader. Similar looking design though.

Thanks Ismaelg, you can't tell from the pic how cold and windy it was ( i know it's august but this is the UK...) the girls were real troopers.

Here's a few from the last couple of weekends - no ladies tho' .

To see two Lancs airborne together, could not imagine it--what did 8 Merlins sound like?

Try that in a B-52 and see where you end up--that's right, someone did try it practicing for an airshow and killed themselves and their crew and the fact that the gear is down--was that actually climbing out after takeoff, or a dirty pass? Amazing manoeuvrability for a large aircraft at low speed.

Nice period shot of the flight engineer's panel. I sat in the jump seat on a CFM engined United DC8 flight and was very surprised at the amount of wind noise in the cockpit. I could hardly hear anything the flight crew said. Yikes!

Maybe they had a poor window seal if it was that bad; regardless, the cockpit is normally a bit noisier than father back. If you ever heard the rain removal airflow (no wipers) on the DC8, that really would make communication a shouting exercise.
