FiFi beginning to taxi out at NASA Ames in 1982 to participate in an airshow being held there. Taken with a Spotmatic F and a 55mm ƒ1.8 lens on Kodacolor film. Just found in my archives.

Good to see all the props in sync with each other. Its like a chorus line of dancers.

I shot these pictures at Paine Field 12 years ago. The Collings Foundation which owns it, and many other WWII relics, was there as part of their Wings Of Freedom tour, where they stop at airfields around the country selling rides to generate funds to keep these magnificent machines flying.

Yesterday it crashed five minutes after takeoff, killing seven people, and sending five to hospital.

From what I read, this was the third time she's crashed -- the first time with any loss of life. The media has been saying that it's only because of the efforts of a member of the Air National Guard who was on board that any of them survived. I feel horrible for those aboard and their families. For some of them, a flight like this was on their bucket list. Based on the pictures, she's not going to be rebuilt this time.

Yes, sad news. Thoughts and prayers for those involved.

I knew of the previous crash history, and was amazed when I saw it twelve years ago. It was a beautiful aircraft.

The Mitchell is such a beautiful airplane.

Fun to fly too. Powerful, responsive. Awesome.
