They did high altitude testing of the Osprey just a mile or so from my house. Cool, but I got tired of hearing it day after day!

I drove by the local municipal airport yesterday, a couple of small single seaters were going. Each would take off, fly about 5 minutes, land, refuel and go again. Trainers I think. Here are a couple of shots out of a dozen or so keepers.

Waiting...

I thought I had the full size crop of this one, 3584x2688 so it will resize easily to 1024x768, but didn't. This is a crop of the next keeper of the same plane, 1024x768. No editing done at all, both are exactly how they came off the camera.

Shot with my K-x and Sears 80-200 lens, f8 I think. These were both 1/350 shutter speed, so I didn't quite stop the motion of the prop, but I think it works pretty well as is. I'm liking this lens pretty well, it's getting some nice shots. I got several cool shots of them flying, and fast enough to stop the prop, will try to upload and post a couple later.

Looks like crop dusters to me. So, if the fields are also nearby, they probably already dumped their loads of pesticides. Can't think they'd need fuel after 5 minutes. Nice shots though.

Special K: No more boneyard shots. Reminds me of having to take my jet to the Davis-Monthan boneyard from Myrtle Beach when they closed down the AFB side. Just kidding about the shots, keep 'em coming as that was many moons ago when I made my delivery.

captmacq: thanks for adding that last pic. I guess you shot it at about 1/250"? That's about all you'd need to "freeze frame" the Hog.

Here's a collection of clips (not mine) from Oshkosh. Thought airplane people might like it.

jheu02 - I finally found out the planes I posted are rigged to spread fertilizer. A lot of pines have been planted (finally) north of town, from what I could find out they're probably fertilizing those. Still chemicals, of course, and almost as bad as pesticides, but not quite crop dusters. But you were very close. I didn't know what the rigs were on the undercarriage, but they were tanking up on more fertilizer, not fuel as I originally thought.

Su-31

Hubie Tolson flew his Su-31 at our local airshow. Awesome! Unfortunately, the 2nd shot here is OOF, I guess the AF couldn't settle quickly enough with all the smoke surrounding him. At the end of the main routine, he shuts the engine off while inverted and glides across show center. The last two shots captures this, it wasn't stopped due to shutter speed.
