Actually, that isn't just an old B727, it's the oldest B727, as it's the very first B727.

Well, the first one sold to a customer.

The first few planes are used for testing and proof of concept. Like the one that went straight to the structural stress test7ng where they bend the wings up and down repeatedly until failure, and alternately pressurize and depressurize the fuselage to ensure the structural integrity of the airframe. Another plane is used for flight testing and development of design adjustments.

Something they learned from the DH Comet disasters.

Normally true, but in this case the 727 did not have a dedicated prototype and the first one was delivered to United. Museum of Flight.

Interesting.

A testament to the quality and integrity of the design and build of the very best commercial airliners made. The plane certainly had a long and profitable life for United, to be sure. Having sold for a few million, and then earned many times that in revenues over its long life, I would be interested to know what the current value of the plane is.

Prime Air

Mr. Bezo's newest toy, a 767
seen making low passes over Puget Sound this week.
We had some pretty skies, and I had seen it earlier with a Lear jet chasing it.

Not sure why it was making these repeated low passes, practicing for precision delivery?

By the way, 1997, the registration number, N1997A is both the year Amazon went public, and a prime number.
