Southern Cross Replica on Norfolk Island in 1990. No, it's not a Ford Trimotor, it's a Fokker F.VIIb/3m

The original Southern Cross was the first aircraft to fly the Pacific Ocean from the USA to Australia, which it did.in 1928. . The original Southern Cross is in an exhibition hangar at Brisbane airport. I'll hunt out the slide I took in about 1968.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Cross_(aircraft)

Ansett Fokker F28 Fellowship Norfolk Island c1990. From the registration VH-EWC this was an ex-East West Airlines aircraft. These flew from Sydney to Norfolk Island (1680km) before Ansett went bust. Norfolk is an External Territory of Australia.

]ex-Royal Australian Navy Fleet Air Arm Fairey Firefly at HMAS Albatross (a naval air station). Part of the naval museum. Fleet Air Arm Museum | Royal Australian Navy

Note the red dot in the roundel, not the present day red kangaroo.. I don't know when I took these but probably more than 20 years ago.

Friday I went to the Air Force Museum, now officially called the National Museum of the United States Air Force. I got around the new fourth building and a little bit of some of the other three, I'm planning a return trip later this month. The fourth buiding is mostly Presidential aircraft, experimental aircraft, and space.

Here's the fourth building:

North American X-15A-2

Boeing VC-137C SAM 26000 (Kennedy's Presidential Aircraft)

Hexagon KH-9 Film Recovery Vehicle

Ryan X-13 Vertijet

Douglas VC-54C “Sacred Cow" (Roosevelt's Presidential Aircraft)

A (very) few of my shots

I've been taking aircraft shots for longer than I care to remember, starting with film and my Spotmatic F, and just found this thread. Here are a few of my most recent, along with one of semi-historical significance. I'll start with that one first. Please excuse the fact that it wasn't taken with a Pentax. It was taken with my first digital camera, a Canon G3 point and shoot that was a gift. It's a picture of a Grumman F-14 taken at the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale on Long Island, NY. The F-14s were retired from the USN in 2006. This event was the final operational flight of a pair of the F-14s. Since the F-14s were all manufactured in Bethpage and Cavlerton on Long Island, the Navy conducted their official final flight by flying two of them over the remaining Grumman plant in Bethpage and then landing at the museum for an open house with the remaining Grumman employees. We got the chance to take close up pictures of the aircraft and this picture shows one of the planes getting ready to depart at the end of the event.

The other images were all taken with my K10D and show the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels at a couple of the annual airshows held over Jones Beach on the south shore of Long Island. I just upgraded to a K-3II and can't wait to add to my aircraft picture collection.

Can't wait to see more of your pics especially now with the K-3ii which will allow you to reach another level
