Kingfisher float plane on the catapult of the battleship USS Alabama. Taken with my trusty K-1000 and 50mm F:2 lens in 1986.

Enterprise space shuttle flight test/training article in the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space museum in NYC. Until you stand under it, you don't realize how large it actually is. Too bad there isn't enough room to get complete pics of it. All shots handheld (ISO 800 - 1600) with a K-3II and HD DA 16-85mm.
I'm thinking that photo #4 would have shown the entire shuttle if you had a lens of 12mm or 13mm. I purchased my Sigma 10-20mm because of a situation like that involving a steam locomotive in a museum.

You're correct in that it would have shown it, but my personal view is that the apparent distortion would have been beyond the limits of what I find acceptable. That's just me; others might not have any objection to it at all!

A couple of helo pics from Oshkosh in 1985. First is a parade of Hueys, which is followed by a Cobra with pyrotechnics adjacent to the runway.

Hi, Racer,

Since you mentioned the Concorde, here are 4 of the Concorde from the same airshow. They actually flew an airshow routine at Oshkosh. It was subsonic, of course, since it was over the US. Nevertheless, if you were willing to pay $400, you could fly on the Concorde during its routine, and after take-off, while preparing to begin their performance, they'd take you up to Canada for a supersonic leg, just so you could say that you had done it. They replaced the normal American airshow announcers with a dedicated British Airways Concorde team who talked about the "bumps & circuits" (American translation: touch and go's) that the aircraft would perform during the routine. I particularly like the last picture here because, while taken from the ground, it looks like it was taken at altitude. Awesome sight!

Blimey subsea, those Concorde shots take me back. We were taken by our parents to Fairford to watch the development flights. Plonked right next to the runway for numerous full power take offs of the rather noisier than they ended up birds. Health and Safety would have had a conniption fit nowadays... Small point of order though, it's circuit and bumps. Sometimes also known as circuit bashing.

Hi, vespa. You're correct about the noise of the Concorde. However, the company Gulfstream II that we flew to Oshkosh on was even noisier! As for "circuits and bumps," I distinctly remember it being announced as bumps and circuits. But, given that it was almost 35 years ago, I could be wrong about that or even wrong about remembering that I was there at all!

A few helicopters:

I saw Erickson Aircrane "Delilah" coming in to land when she should have been out fighting a fire on the outskirts of Melbourne. I took a few shots with my K3 DA*300 combo but it was too long so I headed home and grabbed my DAL 55-300. I expected just a tidy up and re-fuel but it turned out they needed to replace a cooling fan. So I snapped a few other helicopters as well. Also, it was a clear blue sky except for the smoke.

First 2 shots are the DA*300 and the rest with the DAL55-300.

Help is on it's way, "Delilah" finally heads for the smoke.

FIGAS (Falkland Islands Government Air Service) Britten-Norman Islander landing at Carcass Island. I'll try to do better with the prop blur next time.

The last time I flew in an islander was in about 1973. I don't think that one had GPS.

Also known as a "bounce and blow" or "crash and dash."
