I believe this one has been refurbished for wildfire fighting, retardant/water bombing
Recent photo? I thought all of these had been retired.

I flew these for an airline for nearly two years. Like the airplane, I am an antique.

Recent photo taken at the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum in NJ (A WWII era naval training base). I was told by a worker there that this is privately owned and the museum lets the guy park there for free in exchange the museum gets to show it off as part of the exhibit. Apparently the plane is in top shape and the owner comes around every so often and takes it up for a spin. There's also a junkyard of sorts on the premises where this guy refurbishes some type of cargo plane similar to a C-130 and sells to foreign countries.

The rumble, growl and grumble on takeoff is deafening. The ultimate killing machine. A10 Thunderbolt is a close 2nd.

I was in grad school back in the mid 70's at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio. This was back when they were a SAC base. When they rolled out on an alert, the B52's could take off every 15 seconds. Deafening doesn't even begin to describe it.

MITO: Minimum Interval Take Off
One of my favorite videos on YouTube:

Just imagine been the 7th pilot. You are taking off in a loaded B52 almost blind hoping that the 3 tankers ahead of you took off...
Sorry for swerving a little off topic here....

Thanks,

Hello,

So I was photographing an official Boy Scout event when I heard this in the background. Turned around, snapped the pic, turned backed to keep up with the ceremony in process.
I was shooting Av f2.8 closeups at the moment so that's why the shutter speed was very high (1/3200) and there is no motion blur in the heli's rotors. Oh well!

K5-II / Tamron 17-50 @ 50mm f2.8
Considerable cropping.

Thanks,

Not to derail it even further, But in my NASA days at Edwards AFB in the late '80s, I was sitting on the side of the main runway waiting for one of our birds to takeoff, and an Air Force B1, with two F-111 chase planes came low over the run way, only a couple 100-ft up.
They were not running fast, just very low and throaty, 8-engines, but spread out a bit more than a B-52, so it lasted a bit longer. Still remember that.
