I want to thank everyone who commented and especially everyone who entered. As previous hosts have confessed, this was not an easy image to work with. But isn't that the nature of a challenge? My apologies to anyone who found it too daunting to give it a go, or who worked on it and gave up. That said, those that did enter took a wide variety of approaches. Each of these approaches had at least one outstanding result.
3rd Place: Silhouette - Fractal
"Bah"? I think not. I love the distortion of the window panes. It's all too easy to fixate on making them straight. [I'm guilty
] This has very appealing tonality as well. Silhouetting the bird makes a lot of sense given the backlighting and underexposure. And it works really well in this rendition.
2nd Place: PhotoArt - MRRiley
Very impressive use of the plastic wrap filter. Obviously lots of work went into fixing the tonality of the image as well. I'm amazed at the detail that you brought to life in the bird's head. This effort might have earned 1st place had the bird ended up with better separation from that ugly, wide divider in the middle of the window panes.
1st Place: Color Transformation - Ash
Great job as well to bring back some definition to the birds head. I love all the detail in the body and tail feathers. I especially admire how translucent they look, and thus how they mimic the panes in the background. The violet color works well - royal for a royal fowl - and it provides some much needed contrast between the bird and the dreamy background. Well done Ash. Have fun hosting the next challenge.
