My son and I were out in SW Nevada… actually looking for rattlesnakes to photograph We spent several minutes just observing it to gauge it's aggressiveness and behavior, and wound up spending close to an hour watching and photographing the 3 foot long juvenile. My son, Chris, was working for the parks district at the time, and we both have a lot of experience with all sorts of reptiles. I wouldn't recommend our behavoir for everyone, but we did keep a safe distance and had a planned exit strategy if it had decided to move in our direction. It was certainly one of my all-time favorite wildlife encounters.

Cool! I'd love to chase snakes like this one day !

So let's go back to A, for American Wigeon (or ... Anas Americana)

And here's a Z…

A Zebra Swallowtail ovipositing an egg on a Paw Paw tree...
I'm impressed. It is evident you knew what you were doing: You might have kept a safe distance, but you were close enough that it bothered to do a threat display... definitely something I would not try without a real herpetologist at hand!

In Denmark we only have the common adder, which is venomous, but the worst you will get is a nasty bite, a bad fever and a few days of hospitalization - which is sort of bad enough, in my view! They are rare though, and all I have so far are very mediocre shots of adders running away (snaking away? wriggling away? Isn't running reserved for legged creatures?)

I love your swallowtail too, less scary, equally well done!
