Lovely shot WPRESTO! interesting too!
J-Jackals, which I was fortunate to see @ Rietvlei Nature Reserve on my Birthday. Nice Birthday present. A family of 4 Jackal-they were probably planning an attack on that young foal in the background.

There was no explanation. The rock at the bottom of the cage appeared to be attached by chain to an iron ankle clamp, so it was equivalent to a ball-and-chain. The wooden tubular thing has spikes pointing inward. It was probably clamped onto a leg. The devices in this dungeon at the royal palace in Prague were really horrid, but I cannot vouch for the authenticity or use of any, as some may have been created to titillate tourist imaginations. Still, all had the look of substantial antiquity. It was impossibly crowded and cluttered, but I have a few more images, notably of a classic rack.
