Quern, this one dating from 9-10th century. Collected several images of these in Iceland to help us past this sometimes annoying letter.

United States (Yippee!). Fully: "United States Navy," leftover from a base on Iceland during WWII (neither Denmark, nominally owners/rulers of Iceland, nor the people of Iceland had anything to say about the establishment of the base.

V-vultures- 3 species here- Whitebacked, Cape and Lappetfaced (the reddish face) Vulture, at a buffalo carcass. You can just see the horn of the buffalo in the water.

Water wagon. I'm taking the picture, not on it.

Guess what color??? Yes. Without the great structural strength of "X" (in reality multiple triangles), this thread would stall hopelessly.

Arrowhead from Viking time found on Iceland but out of placec. This type of arrowhead was used for big game (caribou, boar) but the only native mammal on Iceland was the Arctic fox for which this heavy point is inappropriate. Perhaps it was brought before the first settlers realized there wasn't any big game.

Chalice, known as the Nicholas Chalice, 1500, with a bowl made from a polished coconut. Now how did that find its way to Iceland in the 16th century?
