W is WAIPIO VALLEY. Many lives were lost here during the 1946 tsunami, the valley being perfectly shaped and perfectly oriented to maximize the wave's impact. Since then the population has remained very low, but the valley floor is still farmed. Descent into the valley is via a very narrow road with multiple switchbacks. Private cars are not allowed, you must ride with a professional driver.

By the way, Bramela, I thought the statue theme was fun.
Could we occasionally try a theme for a whole alphabet?
Why not? But I fear some of the letters that are already difficult (q,x,z) might become even more difficult, but it is a challenge I would suggest.

So PLEASE NOTE : as from A again lets do a theme :

Animal, Bird or Insect.

Tks Bruce, I edited my pos, as I forgot to attach the image.
And thanks for going the theme route. I quite enjoyed that little statue theme. Its more fun and challenging. Can we make it "not a hard and fast rule" so that others who do not have a Animal, bird or Insect can still join and post whatever they have. I know it will break the fun of it, but the more the merrier participants.

There is Zebra Fish, Zebra Finch, and of course Zebra. Yellow Billed Storks comes to mind for birds. Now about the X - Probably the scientific names will have to do-Xenopus genus of Toads. Xylophagus insects are there too-they are the wood eaters-so Weevils come to the fore. Uhm, I am sitting with a dictionary here. This is gonna be fun! We're almost there.

I've been having fun with "anything goes," and for a while with a series with only statuary although that only survived for about five or six letters. I'm afraid if the topic is limited we'll see repeats with the difficult letters, assuming the point is to post completely different words as opposed to different images of the same thing such as "here's my zebra," (there have be several zebras, but SFAIK, no one has posted a zebu). It can be challenging enough just coming up for something for each letter. I had to dig through chromes and scan to get an image for xylophage, and I haven't yet taken an image for xiphoid process. It's also a challenge getting your own precious "C" posted before someone else posts for that letter and you have to wait all the way around the alphabet again. Another problem with a topical alphabet, people break into the thread without knowing there's a specified topic or theme back at "A." That's what happened when I discovered this game. My vote is for "anything goes" so long as it fits the letter.

To please all, then, I think we go with the topic, but "loosely". Photos will be posted that are not of the theme, while some will try to adhere to the theme.
I don't want to tamper with the thread too much, considering the great success it has been thus far.
Let's just continue to enjoy it, because when we stop enjoying it is when thread will die a natural death.
