Thank you!, Closest I could get the these erratic birds. They disappear in a jiffy at any approach.

Young gulls. I'd say "yawning," but more likely they're ventilating and cooling on what was a very hot day.

I think we're on "E" because of the "dammit" but just in case:

DOG that's ENIGMATIC, a pretty good representation of a dog's head formed naturally by a combination of how the lava originally cooled, and how it subsequently eroded.

Afterthought or aftermemory When I saw this I thought that had there been an indigenous population on the Azores before the Portuguese discovered them, there probably would have been an intriguing story to explain why the god(s) had turned this animal into stone.
