V for Venomous. This is a Boomslang (treesnake-how confusing) the most venomous snake in Southern Africa, and for which no anti-venom is available. Blood transfusions are teh only way you'll survive. Fortunately, it rarely bites. Identified by its rather large eye. This is a male, as the females are a more drab brown colour.

G for Green Mamba, a relatively unknown or should I say, unstudied snake. Related to the Black Mamba, this one also has a coffin shaped head, and considered equally deadly. Unlike the Black Mamba, this is a much more placid snake, bites are unheard of, except at snake shows and reptile parks.

The lack of bites by green mambas is probably connected to their habits: they are highly arborial, and consequently face fewer threats and encounter people more rarely than the terrestrial black mambas. The greens therefore have less incentive (selection pressure )to be aggressive.

and

H is for HAWK. This is a ferruginous hawk, the largest species in NA, noted for its very long gape.
