J is for Jet

This Mig 15 was actually made in Poland as a LIM - 2, it was not supersonic but was the first swept wing jet fighter developed by the Soviet Union to face UN forces

"Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15BIS (Polish-built SBLim-6R; FAA Reg. Number N15YY)" - (found at the Combat Air Museum, Topeka KS - http://www.combatairmuseum.org/)

How the MiG-15 grounded the U.S. bomber fleet in Korea"

[the link contains a short black and white video: "A segment from a U.S. Air Force film follows a single flight by then-Major Charles “Chuck” Yeager. Before Yeager and Air Force test pilots Albert Boyd and H.E. “Tom” Collins put the MiG-15 through its paces, technicians inspected it for signs of sabotage and determined it was safe. The MiG was tested to find out how it performed in comparison with the U.S. frontline fighter, the North American F-86 Sabre, which in the film joins up with Yeager for part of the flight. "]

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"In the early days of the Korean War, the fast, high-climbing little MiG, code-named Fagot by NATO, came as a rude shock to the Americans. Armed with .23 and .37-mm cannons, it shot down a number of B-29s, and forced the USAF to halt daylight bomb raids. The MiG-15 was clearly superior to the American F-80 and P-51 fighters then in Korea, although the American pilots' superior skill and training helped close the gap. On November 8, 1950, an F-80 flown by 1st Lt. Russell Brown shot down a MiG-15 in history's first all-jet dogfight.

When the F-86 Sabre, America's first swept-wing fighter, arrived in Korea, the tables were turned. . . "

no expert but I always thought a latch was a mechanical device of some sort that fastens something like a box, window or door

while a lock "locks" a box or door and requires a third object (key) to open it (and in some cases to lock it)

so the object in the middle of the photo appears to be a lock b/c of the key hole

IMHO, YMMV

The silvery box is clearly a lock, it has a keyhole, but there are also two large iron bars whose bent ends are dropped into a metal loop on each of the doors. Those I think qualify as latches, a non-key safety closure that can be operated only from the inside of a door, like a window latch.

Neemanu Enterpirses. Interesting about this image = it was almost usable to cover the entire alphabet in one post, but I could not find a "Q" or "Z" amid the lettering of the signs, and I did check carefully even on the small signs posted on the yellow building.

Sorry

1 wasn't aware of any such written instructions

2 always have hated violating any unwritten rules that I am unaware of

3 not sure if I am the first to add additional but I will admit I do it alot and am overly through

Sorry if I have offended anyone

not at all - I was just curious as to why we're having discussions in a photo/fun thread...

if that's cool - I'll shut the hell up...

speaking for myself, I don't mind your comment, just mentioning that I didn't see any instructions or limitations so my "error" was unintentional

I just like the back story of the photos from everyone

I will try to restrain myself in the future

no offense intended to you I wasn't offended by your comments
