Evening. I actually had to lower the saturation to make this image palatable to my eye - the orange glow on the rocks in the original was overwhelming..
Seems that while I've been away all day there's been some innocent merriment re: my post for "R." So much the better, but I corrected it anyway.

K is for Kilimanjaro -

photographed from the heights of Mount Meru which is in Arusha National Park about 70 KM away
[Mount Meru is an active (but dormant) volcano located north of Arusha in Tanzania. At 4562 metres [14,967 feet] it is Tanzania's second highest mountain and the fourth highest mountain in Africa.]

"Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at 19,341 feet (5,895 meters), but it isn't a mountain in a traditional sense. It is a giant stratovolcano that began forming about a million years ago and is composed of many layers of hardened volcanic ash, lava, pumice and tephra — fragmental material that is the fallout from a volcanic eruption. . . . One of the Seven Summits (the highest peaks on the seven continents), Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania in east Africa. . . . "
