my neck hurts just looking at how the neck of the Canada Goose is kinked in these photos

NIBBLED. Beaver have been working on this tree for some time. If they're expecting some tender shoots to eat from upper branches, they will be disappointed, if it's possible for a beaver to be be disappointed.

Pipes. These are out in a woods that were once lumbered, but the area is now more-or-less a conservation area (owned by the university, and used sometimes for ecological research but generally by monitoring only, not by manipulation). It's a bit over a mile from the nearest paved road, and I've no idea what the intended function of these pipes might have been.
