Probably Valie, a reference to people from the old (apartheid) era, when SA was divided into 4 provinces, one of which was Transvaal. Chances are this was probably done by a Valie.

Something that I did not, would not have known, so I naturally tried to impose something familiar. How often to we "read into" based on what we know?

Eggs. I wasn't absolutely sure these ubiquitous painted ostrich eggs were real eggs or porcelain.
