At my location in Massachusetts the storm was relatively minor, certainly not like the Halloween snowstorm last year, but one tree did snap in the back (up in the woods). My daughter & son-in-law, however, live in Pennsylvania near the Delaware border, almost exactly along the path of Sandy's eye. Haven't heard from them as yet today, but don't think their location was in more danger than a power outage. The problematic locations are along the coast. Storm surge is almost always the most destructive feature of storms such as Sandy. Flooding of the transit system in NYC is probably going to be the biggest problem and expense, adding cleanup/repair to lost business revenue because commuters cannot get into the city.
