I wonder if Harper play right field or dh ?
Great Question....I think they will probably DH him to keep him as fresh as possible for the whole season. He was banged up in spring training and sat out a week. Big hitters like Harper usually don't spend their whole careers at active field positions (Is 1st Base a later possibility?) anyway so we'll have to wait and see. The Phillies current Manager, Gabe Kappler is an odd fellow--not conventional in any way. The other alternative would be to have Franco DH (he's already the most productive 8 hole hitter I've ever seen). Wish I could go out to KC--I like the town and haven't been there in a long while....

By the way I love these Sloths....Jackie likes younger men ("Macho" is 8 years younger than her) so I guess I'm out.

when I think of the great Hall of Famer Ernie Banks of the Cubs, I think of him at First Base, ' 62 - '71 [ I'm a " pre69 Cub Fan " ] but he was a great short stop in the early days of his career '53 - ' 61

Banks, Ernie | Baseball Hall of Fame

Ernie was great regardless of where he played

Yes he just passed away and I'm glad I got to see him play also....the Cubbies had some tough seasons when he played and yet he showed up every day and well, his career says it all....

If you wander west, drop me a PM, I'm 70 miles further west in Topeka KS

KC is a great place to visit:

BBQ, steak houses, WW I Memorial and Museum, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, American Jazz Museum, Kansas City Zoo, and the Truman Historical Site and Museum in Independence Mo. very close KC

and a few forum members in the vicinity as well

as does the career of his " partner " Billy Williams who was at the opening game in Chicago yesterday

Williams, Billy | Baseball Hall of Fame

watching them play taught me the meaning of being a professional - do the best you can all the time even if the situation isn't perfect and you can't " win it all "

Was there on business about 6 years ago and the BBQ was off the chart--different than the Texas version, not better or worse, just flavorful and different. Went to Independence to see the Truman Site (he was my favorite President of the 20th Century), and would have liked to have stayed on longer....Much different vibe than St. Louis for sure.

and he had fun doing it with his infectious smile and "good day to play two".

During my childhood of the 1950's, we lived in a Chicago suburb.

J is for Jackie

a Hoffmann Two-toed Sloth, hanging out with her baby Sago in the Tropical Rain Forest Exhibit at the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center

the sixteenth baby that she has had and the 5th she has had with Mocha

Jackie is 28 and Mocha is 20, and there is also Foley born 12/17

currently there are a total of 6 at the zoo
In the 1970's - during my grad school years - I was sent to Venezuela several times on business. One morning a mother sloth was lugging her infant across the hotel's lawn {but they didn't have "Hello, my name is" tags"}.

I grew up in the New York and Eastern PA area. When the Dodgers left Brooklyn in the late 1950's, I grew up with an uncle who decided he needed a new team to root for and picked the Phillies. The Giants were on their way to San Francisco, the Mets were the 'bastard' team that replaced the Dodgers and the Yankees were the upper crust my cigar chewing, cab driving Uncle couldn't stand. So we would drive the 90 miles to Connie Mack Stadium in North Philly and watch the games. Saw the likes of Bob Gibson, Ernie Banks (of course), Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente and John Bunning (not his perfect game though) to name a few. Man, my uncle loved driving and I appreciated it--made me a big baseball fan....I wish I could go back in time with my K-1 and snap some photos, but I don't have a "Hot Tub Time Machine'.
