Open pit mining machine. The pickup trucks and stairs going up this monster give some idea of its size. SCAN

Reptile. SCAN. Holding it in my left hand while taking this image. The very long claws indicate this is a male, but being a boy, no nail polish.

Venomous. An eastern diamond-back rattlesnake. It was crossing the road when M, daughter and I were driving in a rental through the Everglades. I pulled over, stopped and got out for a picture at which point the snake was off the road in the grass. M & A were throwing forty conniptions in the car screaming I was an idiot. Eastern diamond-backs are far more docile than the western variety. The latter are famous for raising their heads well up off the ground in threat posture and striking repeatedly. The eastern variant never assumes that famous aggressive posture. SCAN

It's that color for "Y" - but at least it's not a flower. SCAN

Antennae. SCAN. After taking this picture I squashed the subject. It's a male gypsy moth.
