Links in a serious chain. No doubt a single link would be too heavy for me to lift.

Photograph them while you can. The western population of monarchs may go extinct in your lifetime.

Omi's, one of many "take-away" places to get food on Maui - they far outnumber sit-in restaurants. Most of the take-aways are permanently parked food trucks (= a compact kitchen on wheels) so this one is unusual in being a building or shack.

Interesting, almost surreal neon-like colors and lighting.

Quiet down! The boat owner, using his hand, is calming this wild but semi-tame pelican. Several of the birds know they will get free fish when the boat sets out, but not when it returns.

Submarine, some of the controls, a left then right pan along one side of the central command chamber of the ship. The opposite side of the this chamber had an equally bewildering array of dials, switches etc. (to be posted later).

ENCOUNTER. Who backs may depend upon 1) uphill vs downhill; 2) Who is closer to a turnout or wider section of the road; 3) who has the bigger vehicle. Just into the trees where the car backing up was going, the road narrows to a single lane.
Looks like the road to Hana.

Just so. Part of the "good" half across the northern side of the island. Some of the return along the south shore was really sketchy. There were far fewer vehicles along that stretch and some drivers must have thought there would be no one using the road going back toward Kihei, so they'd come at us around a blind outside turn in a jacked-up 4WD with friends & surfboards going rather faster I thought was safe. Sometimes scary.
