F-Fall/Fallen (with apologies to our northern hemisphere neighbors, who I am sure will not like this reminder of Fall, just as they are beginning to enjoy Spring and Summer.

We would know it simply as a succulent here and Google suggests Congested Ice Plants. There are a few varieties. Some are known as Vygies, (literally small Fig) and some of them are edible too. Grew up eating them, especially dried vygies. Mostly confined to the Eastern and Western Cape provinces. Lovely plant to have in the garden.

Too cold winters to grow them here in Massachusetts, but familiar with them from coastal California. Those pictured were on Mykonos and also took pictures of the flaming red/pink variety. Have mentioned them to ecology students occasionally as a form of succulent that conserves fresh water in leaves ("like little green bananas") where there is abundant salt water and therefore water deficit conditions for the vast majority of vascular plants.

AND: K is for KYMCO.
