E is for EVIL EYE, the name applied to these blue disks (commonly glass) with a white-and-blue center. Sold probably in the hundreds of thousands in all sizes, they are a charm against evil, the equivalent of a rabbit's foot or horseshoe in the USA. Notice some are placed within a horseshoe for double protection.

P is for PAPAL HAMMER. Because of overuse of sanctuary, four Holy Doors were bricked shut to be opened only during Jubilee Years, originally intended to be once a century. The Pope would ceremonially unseal each door by striking the bricks with a hammer such as this one. Later the doors would be resealed by the Pope using a ceremonial trowel. This tradition changed substantially during the twentieth century.
