I dion't think I've ever heard vacuums called Hoovers unless they were Hoovers. We could do a whole thread on products that are nicknamed after a prominent brand, you can go way back to the Crapper!

About "Crapper" and the legend of Thomas Crapper and his famous flush toilet, as well as other porcelain fixtures (I noted & photographed a Th. Crapper sink on the steamship Great Britain - the image has been posted). Research into the term "crapper"" indicates it was used for defacatorial devices well before the man & company & product became more-or-less synonymous. Apparently Mr. Crapper's name was coincidentally the same as a slang term already in use for such a device ("crapping ken" - Oxford English Dictionary, 1846), based on a Middle English word ("crap") for feces.

Wow, It's been a long time since I've heard that, that was a top brand and now it's gone. Actually you still occasionally see some Zenith branded TVs, I think LG owns the name.
