Here's the basic story:

In the tan-colored fancy work of the facade, just above the pediment that tops the lower four engaged columns, there are symmetrical spirals that curve in toward the center. If you look very carefully you'll see atop the inner turn of each spiral, below the first outer turn, a small figure on each side, much too small to make out in detail at the image size posted. One of these is a cat. The one on the opposite side is a rat or mouse. The story or legend is: when the cat catches the rat, eternity will begin.
If you want to GOOGLE, try Mission San Xavier del Bac.

X for XERIC once again. These are essentially the only plants that can grow on these extremely dry slopes of volcanic ash & cinder. This species (Tiquilia nesiotic) evolved on and is endemic to the Galapagos Islands.
