N-National Route 3-(or part thereof) between Johannesburg and Durban, which I traveled on Saturday and Sunday. Our very dry winter in evidence.

I love those landscapes. Traveled down the N3 many years ago, partly by minibus taxis. Those guys tend to be in a hurry. Too much so, I think. The one going from Beitbridge to Johannesburg went flat out all the way, fully loaded with people and luggage. They're very service minded, though.

P - Piled up clouds. I didn't start taking pictures of clouds until I read somewhere it was very cliché doing so.

U for UNUSUAL, UGLY, and UNSUCCESSFUL. The 1935 Stout Scarab was the first car without running boards and separate fenders construction. It was powered by a rear-mounted V8, leaving a flat interior floor. All seats except the driver's could be removed, some could be turned to reverse position. It came with a small table (visible in the interior photo) and was spacious enough that passengers could sit at it facing while the car was still being driven. The manufacturer depended on a variety of suppliers for various parts, including the engine, and deliveries were grossly unreliable. Too few were built to qualify this exceptionally innovated design as a production vehicle.

W for WAGON and WORKING, setting up one of the seemingly endless number of roadside stands. Notice the remnants of a pedal-operated Singer sewing machine.
