J-Jon, a homeless man, eking out a living collecting plastic and metal for recycling. My work colleague offers him a shelter and the yard where he can sort out all his collection in safety. He arrives on a daily basis with a trolley load of paper/cardboard/plastics and metal. He has come on one occasion with a Geyser, on others with a stove, lawnmower, microwave oven and the likes. He has a family to support too! Well at least a wife that I know of.

R-Rhino @ Rietvlei. Deliberately de-horned to prevent them from being a target for poachers. The horns are growing very nicely again, since I saw them last year.

Shiva. As the rhino said to the poacher: "If this horn were an aphrodisiac, do you think we'd be on the edge of extinction?" Actually it is not the aphrodisiac* myth that is the problem, It's the need for young man in some areas of the Moslem world to have a rhino-horn handled knife as an emblem of achieving manhood.

*Rhino horn is 100% alpha keratin, identical to hair and fingernails. So, as I used to tell my students, you can get just as aroused by chewing your nails, your hair, your shoes, but for real excitement, by downing a spoonful of hide or horse-hoof glue.

Urban. And there are probably some ancient fingernails available to grind into powder (everybody knows that something older has more potency). For fear they would be used to cast spells, people used to keep fingernail clippings in a bottle so witches couldn't get them.
