Broken Bricks on a Beach. Fort Jefferson occupies almost all of Dry Tortugas. The fort is brick-built and is pre-Civil War, so the sea, and some fierce storms, have had plenty of time to tear out bits and incorporate them into the substrate.

They look less strange that fairly elegant, fancier than the black wooden ones we had as kids. Yours look more like the ivory blocks from a mahjong set. My son watched this ancient game being played when he was in China. He said that some of the players, using the same set for years and years, could identify every block by feel.

EMERAUDE for "E" - and yes, I am well aware I could also claim "F" and maybe half the alphabet off this image, but I will settle for just "E" - in fact a quick eye-search turned up every letter except "Q" although the "Z" is hard to see (very small).

Yes, made of some kind of material that resemble ivory. The strangeness is a reference to the number of dots- starting with dots and going down to 7. So 9+ Blank, 9+1 etc. Except this set has 27 instead of 28- maybe one got lost. These I inherited, along with a standard Domino set. I had hoped someone could enlighten me about the significance of this additional set, they are together packed in a nice tin.

Quite a few Pentaxians follow this thread/game, so I'll note here that at 7:30PM my local time on the first day of the new contest we've already exceeded 2,000 posts, a posting pace that will net the next raffle winner a K1 mk II. I'll do my best to keep with it, although after two months of furious posting I am growing weary and feel like doing something else, such as taking pictures.
