My wife's grandparents had lived there when she was growing up, Noel - her Ouma played the organ at the church there, so the place was a big part of her childhood, and she'd spoken about it a lot when we first knew each other in England and I was eager to see places like the Valley of Desolation - so we spent a very short honeymoon (there were friends and family over from England who we didn't want to desert) at the Drostdy hotel - so that's why
Ah! The Drostdy Hotel! Nice place too. Always admired it as I drove through en route to PE. And the Valley of Desolation is on the bucket list, though these days I just fly to PE. But planning a drive there sometime this year or next year. And if I recall correctly, there is a lovely vista spot there.

Yuh - G-Rt is a lot more touristy now unfortunately (or fortunately for the people who live there, I guess). I don't need to tell you that SA was a very different place back in '89 when we were married - but the most significant difference from my fortunate point of view was that there were no entry charges to the Valley - not even a barrier back then, so you could come and go as you pleased - you have to pay there and for the adjacent nature reserve now (that didn't even exist in 89) - but yes - there are great views out towards the Cockscomb mountains or looking east from the viewpoint - and some great wildlife - black eagles certainly used to nest up there. My picture was, of course, taken from the drive up to the Valley. I'm very fond of the place, and try to get in a visit when I'm all too rarely in SA

That is a possibility, although as you might expect, the poppet was not actually playing that keyboard. The puppeteer had a recording playing while she moved the puppet's hands up & down. I thought she had learned her puppet operating skills that morning.

Opening in the cap: speculate absurdly: 1) eaten through by a snail; 2) punctured by a hailstone or meteorite; 3) created by the mushroom to let sunlight through to warm its stalk; 4) the fungal equivalent of a pierced ear; 5) removed by a human who loves mushrooms to eat, but hates to kill them; 6) you've heard of toadstools - this is a toad potty.

Room with a "coupe de l'oeil" ceiling

1) first view with my back against one wall.
2) Second view from the center of the room, directly below the chandelier in the first image.
