Daphnis and Chloe, an amazing approximately life-size sculpture. How the artist both envisioned this and carved it with hammer & chisels just astounds me. The delicacy of the figures is wonderful, especially the execution of their hands.

J and K for Jingdezhen porcelain factory Kangxi region Qing Dynasty

Three difficult letters in one object, where & how do I use it?

BTW: The ripply, multi-tone red color is produced by copper in the clay. Putting in the copper and firing the piece to get this coloration is apparently a very touchy, difficult process with unpredictable results. This vase was a prized possession of J. P. Morgan.

Looks as though the ironwork above has been thoroughly hexed.
Mythological subjects, the easiest to identify is the huntress Diana at bottom center, but there's also Zephyr & Flora, Mercury with some woman (who is probably in for pleasure or trouble), and I think the Muses across the top. I must do something more creative with our ceilings.
