Originally posted by Benz3ne I'll often have to do the same with my Mabel during agility classes. She usually bounces off the rafters, is keen to please, quick and agile to start and slowly burns out. Around half-way through (or just past) she'll stare at me blankly when I tell her to move off the start line... much to the amusement of the other owners!
At one agility trial this year, the audience was much amused when a dog went over the first obstacle, tripping the automatic timer, then laid down and started rolling and squirming on its back, and it kept rolling and scratching its back, and kept rolling and squirming, and kept ... happy as a dog with a fresh marrow bone, totally oblivious to its handlers screams, commands and pleading. It never did complete the run, but it was a riot. On another line of thought, one place where we compete there's a lady owner-handler who must use a push-along walker all the time, she cannot walk but a few steps without it. Her dog will sometimes do an obstacle, more often go around one, sometimes stare at the audience, sometimes come to her, sometimes walk the other way, but essentially never complete a run. She doesn't care in the least, takes great joy and pride if her pet does one jump, because it's all about having fun with your dog. I'll take that attitude any day over the very rare (fortunately) handlers who get really angry if their dog does something wrong.
