Originally posted by WPRESTO Pileated woodpecker. This adult male had been struck by another vehicle. I picked it up out of the road and took it to a veterinary practice that was certified to deal with migratory birds. They were going to pass it on to the big veterinary school at Tufts. That was this past Monday. I don't know the fate of the bird, but I am not optimistic. I don't think woodpeckers do well in captivity. I am very skeptical that they would be able to get this bird to eat.
Thanks for rescuing it, Walt. We all have fingers crossed for its recovery. I'm sure they have methods for feeding their patients, even the reluctant ones!
