Not quite a barn, but there is one over there.

Mallee, I'm pretty sure you're talking about what is called the Rattlesnake Grade, HW 129 south out of Clarkston, Wa (we're splitting hairs, here, Clarkston is on the west side of the Snake River and Lewiston, Idaho is on the east, the grade begins after Asotin). Do you remember crossing the Grande Ronde River a few miles before you entered Oregon? For the life of me I can't remember the name of that landing right now at the Grand Ronde but the float from there back to the Snake River is outstanding. But you're right that is a spectacular drive.

This barn is in Coeur d'Alene and I used to take Spike to this field every morning for a run before work. But, like most places these days it has been turned into a housing development. It would be sacrilegious to leave a quarter acre of field for people to take their dog for a walk. They did save the barn, I think they're going to make a restaurant out of it or something.

Hi Eaglerapids,
Checked the map, and yes you are right, that is the road (129).

We spent the night in Joseph. That was a fun night, went to the local saloon.

Then on local advice we made our way across to the dam wall and took a jet boat ride down the Snake. The owner ( a former rancher) and his son had to go further downstream than planned to pick up another of their boats which had a problem, so we had a great look at Hells Canyon. Another amazing place in an amazing country.

It's a small world Mallee, I would love to see your part of it but I'm afraid I'm so old that I may never get the chance. A good fishing buddy of mine spent a month in New Zealand about 5 years ago fishing and loved it.
I still can't get over seeing a pic from the Rattlesnake Grade from a guy who lives halfway around the globe, very very cool:-).

Here's one my wife and I thought was worth pulling off to the side of the road and killing a half-hour for - near Iron River, Wi.
(Not sure why it looks so washed-out here. In Aperture it's got very rich color - like the "original".)
