Mild panoramic by cropping, an idea when prepping this image file for another thread.

I am learning that one really needs to plan out a the series of shots for pano in order to have no gaps, especially when cropping. At least now I am in the habit of taking a shot of the ground or something unusual at the beginning and end of my series so I can more easily identify all the shots I need to pull into ICE.

When I can be bothered to take a series of shots for a pano with my DSLR I tend to take a dummy shot first with my own finger in the frame then take the series and end with another dummy shot with my finger, that way I can easily identify the set of pics meant to form a pano.

Given the computer time it takes to process a set though I am now tending to be lazy and just rely on the pano function on my iPhone,e.g:

Far less time consuming!

I do something similar, especially when taking panos during a vacation when there may be 4~5000 image files, and when did I take a pano set? how many frames? how many pano sets for that matter? I've sometimes discovered a set that I forgot I took. When possible, I leave a "dead frame" at each end of a set = set the dial to manual exposure and twist to smallest aperture and highest shutter speed to make a black frame. Easy to spot these when reviewing and processing on the computer. I ALWAYS do this when taking several stack sets using flash in the studio. Just take a frame with my hand over the lens before starting a stack set, then again at the end. That way I can very quickly sort out several sets taken with slightly different lighting.
