Original.
Lots of detail in that original image. Very nice, Steve.

Out on Matanuska Glacier.
This was a relatively early pano for me. I'm thinking it may be time to revisit/reprocess this one.

Thanks! I really feel that living up here gives me an unfair advantage.

Yes. We spent a few weeks in Alaska. The whole state is covered with scenery, almost as bad as Arizona.

You might want to try HDR which is trivial in PTGui. You can do both HDR and HDR Fusion. I really like the HDR Fusion method. It seems to be a little like focus stacking but for exposure rather than focus. From what I can tell, assuming you take 5 images of each pano shot, PTGui then select the portion that represents the best exposure for each portion of that shot and blends it all together with the other pano shots. The bottom line - you get what I feel are stunning, realistic panos with just phenomenal highlight and shadow detail. I have migrated to PTGui HDR Fusion from pure HDR for my interior panos of historical buildings. I feel the HDR gives a little cartoonish result whereas the HDR Fusion is realistic. For interiors I use 5 shots @2EV, You could use 5 shots at1 EV for outdoor landscapes. While it does add time it is not that much given all the setup you do, assuming you use a tripod. The worst case is that you still have the 0 EV shots to compare.

Thanks! I'll have to look into that program.

QJ - did you win the road lottery this year? Great shots. I'm hoping I can get a pass next year.

Here's hoping the snow holds off till I can get back down till the 3rd week of Oct so I can drive in to Teklanika.

Thanks!

Nope. Didn't win it this year. Just shot these riding on the park bus.

Good luck with the snow!

I'm hoping to get up more during winter this year.

I'm down to the park area for a few hours every second or third Friday, PM me if you want to meet up. It would be nice to see another Pentax user in the wild.

Will do! Color me envious too! I was just up about halfway between Talkeetna and Cantwell chasing the lights Saturday morning. Didn't really see as much as expected with a level 6 forecast. How were they in FBX?
Quartermaster's Reserve on Tumblr ? As to be expected with a level 6 forecast, there...

Drop me a line if you ever head into ANC.

I usually see them briefly before the wife and I go to bed, but our 10 month old keeps me asleep pretty well when the lights would really be out lol.
