When I can be bothered to take a series of shots for a pano with my DSLR I tend to take a dummy shot first with my own finger in the frame then take the series and end with another dummy shot with my finger,that way I can easily identify the set of pics meant to form a pano.
Given the computer time it takes to process a set though I am now tending to be lazy and just rely on the pano function on my iPhone,e.g:
Far less time consuming!
