This is a 13-shot (hand-held ) pano from the Brecon Beacons in Wales that took my 5-year-old laptop about an hour to stitch (K-1 + 24-70 @70mm)

Good one! Wish I had a bigger screen to appreciate it on.

Old cabin I stopped for lunch at today on a mountain bike ride. Pretty neat with the old beds still in there.

I was doing some tests of my home-built automatic pano rig and took this pano with a 100mm lens. It is a 120º pano stitching together 30 frames. The pano is 70,500 pixels wide and only about 5,350 pixels high as I was not taking any multi-row panos that day. I know it looks absurd, but my purpose was only to test my pano rig with 30 images and a small (4º) camera move.

The second image is a crop of just over 5% of the pano's width – 3600 pixels – which shows the detail that a longer lens can yield when used for panoramic pictures.

This is a view of the harbor in Chania, Crete, taken while I was there on liberty during a med deployment in the late 1990s. It was shot with a 35mm point and shoot camera (4 frames), and possibly I was thinking I would paste them into my scrapbook next to each other. That never happened, but they eventually were batch scanned with a bunch of other old negatives and filed away. I ran across them recently, and figuring, "What the hey?" I ran them through my photo stitcher. Results below. File under #ICantBelieveThatWorked.

That turned out very well indeed. Sometimes technology isn't just a change, it's a significant improvement, even a leap forward.

I have a similar story to the one immediately above. This image is stitched from two frames taken in the Moroccan High Atlas in June 1985. I don’t think my intention at the time was to do a pano (although I had tried that before*), but the scans I did recently were a perfect fit. Pentax MX, smc Pentax-M 1:4 200mm, Ilford FP4 film/Promicrol 1+3 developer.

5 file stitch. This crib dam on the Green River, VT, is recorded in 1811. The head water served a few mills in sequence, first a paper & grist mill that was destroyed by a flood, later a lumber mill that burned. No mill building now exists on the east side (= to the right) of the river where these two existed. Records of repairs to this dam are few, but some of it is probably original. The dark bands are ends of logs alternating with some of the flat stones that form the mass of the dam.

Pano by cropping. Part of this year's marshmallow crop moved to the side of a field to await pickup, cutting and bagging.
