Sometimes we can see Greylock from our location, or nearby, from atop Mt. Holyoke, atop Quabbin Hill and a few other spots around Quabbin Park, and also along a trail we take that goes up a ridge and at one place has a nice view west and north across an apple orchard that grows on the west-facing slope of the ridge.

Never ventured to northern middle MA (Amherst region and such)... The many times a year we go to norther MA is to Adams, as my wife has family there. It is lovely. Greylock is the only mountain I've hiked; about 2.5 hrs through Gould Trail in late summer, it is a nice intermediate trail.

Can you spot the memorial Tower from your area?

I've never seriously tried, but on an exceptionally clear day my eyes might be just good enough to make out an irregularity, and with binoculars I'd say definitely yes.on a very clear day. Sometime I'll go out to one of the vantage points and try to capture Greylock with both normal and long tele.

Last time I was up there was about a month ago in August (photo taken then). I wanted to visit the summit, but we were not able to schedule a hike. I drove on an early morning prior to everyone waking up, but they were asking $20 for out-of-state license plates to park. I only wanted to take some shots and buy a hoodie... I left as $20 was too steep for 15 mins, and their shop was closed due to COVID... MA license plates were charged $5...

Nevertheless, I hope next Spring we'll do a hike (free, as we park at the basin, near a private farm). I will remember to look east-southeast to spot your surroundings.

We've done some other hikes in the northwest corner of MessyChewBits, a long time back. We had intended to do Greylock but somehow it never came up on our schedule. It might not be a good idea for me now. During our AM walks, I can do two miles comfortably, 2.5 miles gets the arthritis in my left knee complaining, and anything over three miles means the end of the walk is a matter of enduring rather than enjoying, and a painful knee the rest of the day. All of that is commonly on near level ground, and certainly nothing like the climb up Greylock. I would hate to start that hike then get so deeply into pain that we'd need to call for assistance to get back down. Take my advice: do not get osteoarthritis, it is a pain - like having an angular piece of gravel in your shoe that you cannot remove for the duration of a walk.

Gould Trail is long (2.5 hrs up hike, about 2hrs downhill which is a killer in the joints towards the end)... There are some steep hikes along the path. Be safe with your knee. I dread the thought of having chronic back pain or foot pain.
