People speculate on what makes a year more or less colorful but there seems to be no consensus. This year we are in a drought with a hot and dry spring and then the wettest July on record.
Whatever did it, I hope more falls look like this in the future!
I've been in areas of the interior west in Autumn and there is a great deal of yellow, aspens come to mind immediately. Here in the east the woods are more mixed = maple, birch, sassafras, oak, black cherry, poplar, sumac, etc. so there's a greater variety of colors. Maples in particular change several colors, red and yellow particularly even on a single leaf.
