Its the bottom of a torch/searchlight, the part of the plastic injection moulding that you would nip of as it comes out of the machine. Sort of a navel. Sorry, don't quite know how else to describe it.

I know exactly what you are talking about. The noise in the shot makes it even more abstract and at first I thought it was some high ISO CME (coronal mass ejection) event shot through a pretty big scope as it kind of looks like it could have been one of those.

Shooting inside the house... both shot JPEG in the K-50 with HD DA 18-50mm f/4-5.6 and then I applied a Kodachrome 64 preset in RawTherapee, otherwise unchanged.
