Great composition, but timing is everything. The gull disappears too easily into the ground reflections. A turned head would have helped I think. The texture in the mud is wonderful!

Thanks Dave, he took off right after that, It's ice and water, and a gray-white sky, kind of a natural high key.

I really like this, except for the telephone pole (?) in the back. It breaks up the sense of the expanse. Lose it and keep the rest! Very nice!

That's a nice shot. I think the Pole is what makes this image, it adds some interest/story/questions about the scene; without the telephone pole it would just be another landscape, albeit, exceptionally done...

Cheers guys - interesting input. To be honest I don't tend to interfere with my pictures in the sense of putting things in or taking them out. In this instance I quite liked the pole, although normally I like the idea of large amounts of space doing absolutely nothing at all in quite a few of my pictures.

I like the pole too, don't really know why, it adds a something. I agree with you mark, it is there and that's an accurate representation. But I think if the photog want to remove it, that's ok.
