I did not know that they mined for pine cones.
Around here people go out certain times of the year and pick up pine cones. They sell them to the tree farms that manage forests for lumber production.

Truth is stranger than fiction, and much less common.

Perhaps in the broader sense of the word that is mining. Kind of like strip mining (except not near as ugly). (Not to get too deep or anything).

Two aphorism

1) The trouble with history is that it repeats itself
2) Attributed to Napoleon, but not his exact words (even in translation): History is mythology that we all accept as true.

I think they call it collecting or picking.

It is more like harvesting than mining. And it supports the lumber and forestry industries. Kinda starts out as agriculture.

Ends up a ticky tacky box, next to another ticky tacky box, next to another ticky tacky box, next to another ticky tacky box, next to another ticky tacky . . . . . . . . . . . . . in clusters by the freeway.

Oh, and when they harvest the timber they clear cut, just like harvesting a field of corn or wheat. Looks pretty odd, after seeing the forest, and then one day, "poof!"

Gone.

Rust primarily in the foreground, coating metalwork that is very much in daily use.

Hi Noel

You'd want good padding for that one
