Another image of this shipwreck. Salt water can really do a job on steel and most metal save gold.

I think the anchor of which the image below is a detail could still hold a good size boat despite the superficial rust.

Suggestions......mmmm

Looks like a reduction /. amplifier gear box from a sawmill or rope making jig or shearers combs overhead power train.

Where did you see it ?

As you might know, Berrima is an historic town in the Southern Highlands of NSW, settled in 1831.
Apart from the 20 or so documented mid-1800s buildings there are a few new shops.
This item was outside a newish typical tourist items shop run by two ladies who had only been in business for a few weeks, and had been fielding enquiries about this machine regularly.

No manufacturer's anything - not even a model number or identifier.
