Not sure what this is-in a rock in a river in Kruger Park. Probably a reinforcing steel rod for a bridge no longer in existence

It's been underwater for probably 50 years.. with the drought conditions this summer the river is so low we're seeing river bottom that hasn't been exposed to air for a long time, if ever. That black stuff is what grows on the rocks underwater. Apparently it has no issue also growing on old machinery parts.
