Thought I'd experiment with this old RR spike, found during one of our AM walks, to see how much detail I could get on the rusty textures. So, this is a 13-file image stack.

You've never seen the underground pine trees?

I always thought the cones sprouted from branches and fell to the ground. Guess they sprout from deep roots and are brought to the surface by woodchucks and groundhogs.

The best pine cone mines are said to be in that part of Italy where the spaghetti tree orchards are the most prized.

And here I thought that spaghetti was a vine that was stretched, dried, then chopped into a convenient length for packaging. The things you learn on this forum!

Several years ago, I saw a brief B&W travelogue, apparently shown on British television in as a sort of April Fool's prank, about visiting that area of Italy where the best spaghetti is grown. It showed happy local residents in folk attire picking basketsful of fresh spaghetti, a few strands at a time, from the delicate branches of the spaghetti trees, and taking the harvest back to their farmsteads for drying.
