100 years ago Flinders Island was cleared of forest and scrub and the swamps were drained and ditches put in for farming and allocated for returned servicemen from WWI. This dragline machine was left on the island and appears to be still serviceable if a little rusty. The seat in the cab is rudimentary and no safety shielding on any of the winches and pullies. Men were men in those days (and often missing limbs and fingers -my Dad was one).

Ha, but it did have a door! Nice catch and nice images of some great machinery. I suspect that a modern dragline wouldn't fare much better after spending that long outsider.
