Back then the airlines could choose to have the main cabin door on the right or left side. With jetways it seems that everyone exits left.
But jet airliners have doors on both sides . . . . . .

True, but isn't the galley opposite the main entry door? Don't the delivery trucks drive up to the right side door?

The venerable P3 Orion. These airplanes have been serving the missions of navies worldwide nearly as long as I have been alive. The first flight was in 1959, 3 years after I was born.

And they still are in service today, although the P8 is gradually replacing them.

No ingestion hazard here, they simply chop you up.

But no, it won't sting you. That thing sticking out the back is for magnetic detection of submarines.

And they are painted with special paint, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Hi Racer
The P3 orions are being de-commisioned this year in Aus.
A well used and utilised aircraft

Miami Marine Stadium

OK so maybe the first set of Pictures were from earlier than I thought After doing more research i think maybe 1974 or 1975? That was a long time ago for me! Any way these were in an album and a lot clearer images. I could not get them out with out tearing them. I also do not believe it was a ME- Super that I had at the time ,but was a Pentax.

They are gradually being phased out here too.

Replaced by the P8 Poseidon (Boeing 737).

Hi Racer
I don't know whats replacing them but the Orions are sure easy to spot with the rear appendage. I'll miss seeing them flying around.

It's either 73, 74 or 75. The white and orange boat in the lower RH picture only ran as the Pride of Pay & Pak in 73 through 75. The Miss Bud and the Pay & Pak were big rivals back then.

The upper 2 RH pictures here have to be 77 or later as 77 was the first season for Bill Muncey's Blue Blaster pictured in both shots. These all look like they spanned several years in the 70's. Nice shots. They show some hydroplane history.

I'm a big fan myself!!!

The U-95 was the first turbine powered boat. The Pay & Pak was Rolls Royce Merlin powered. It was the first honeycomb aluminum constructed hull. It was a very revolutionary hull. Both it and Bill Muncey's Blue Blaster have both been restored to running condition by the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in Kent, WA. I was out there in 2010 when they started to restoration on the Blue Blaster. There are bits and pieces of the U-95 around but not enough running gear to restore it. The hull was eventually changed to piston power and is in a warehouse in Detroit if I'm not mistaken.
